RASC 6th Airborne Division grouping – Robert George Smith, 398 Coy.

Very unique WW2 medal group to Robert George Smith, 398th Company Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) within the 6th Airborne Division. This grouping  consists of his medals 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal, French Normandy D-Day medal, medal ribbons and rank slip-ons, personal effects, souvenirs, many very nice photographs and original cartoon sketches dated 1944 and signed Nutty what is also published in the Pegasus newsletter. Robert Smith was commissioned at Bristol OTC into the Royal Army Service Corps and joined the 398 Company RASC, 6th Airborne Division. He was in France on D-Day and remained with his unit until the defeat of Germany in 1945 and beyond, as part of the Force of Occupation in Berlin. On his return to the UK and after his release by the regular army he took up a commission in the Territorial Army 1946. Documentation includes Airborne forces explanatory leaflet dated June 1943 signed by General Browning, original pre D-Day instructions marked BIGOT – Top Secret and detailing actions on landing and assembly areas etc. 398 Coy RASC war diary covering May to July 1944 including the build up to and landing on D-Day. Mentioned in Dispatches document dated 22-3-1945 with one leaf emblem, 21st Army Group certificate of outstanding good service and devotion to duty signed by Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery.  And a very large panorama from the 398 Coy RASC – Airborne.
