British Airborne Helmet Mk1 – G&S 1943

WW2 British ‘Airborne’ paratrooper helmet Mk1. The production of the HSAT (Helmet Steel Airborne Troops) Mk 1 started in 1943, the significant difference between the early fibre rim HSAT and the Mk1 was the elimitation of the fibre rim this leaving a raw edge and subsequently a stainless steel edge binding was implemented to overcome the problem. The same form shell was also used by Dispatch Rider and Armoured Corps shells however the fixtures and methods of lining differed greatly. This helmet was made by Gimson & Slater (G&S) who appear to be the only other maker of paratrooper helmets, other than BMB. Dated 1943 with size 6 3/4. Nice used helmet, with supple leather chin straps, comes with an original camouflage netting.
