Battle Dress 1 SVY RCA – 1st Corps
Original Canadian Battle-Dress tunic with Field-Service cap of the 1st Survey Regiment – 1st Canadian Corps. The interior shows the hand written Service-Number of the soldier, hasn’t been researched and could have an interesting history. The BD tunic is in good condition with normal traces of usage. Nicely maker marked and dated 1944 with size 4. The tunic has printed titles and patches with embroidered CANADA titles, service-stripes and Signal patch on left sleeve what means he was a signalman.
The Field Service Cap is in good condition with its RCA capbadge and Canadian maker marked, 1941, size 7 1/2 and C Broad Arrow.
The 1st Survey Regiment-Royal Canadian Artillery went to Sicily, via Algiers, arriving in Catania in mid December 1943. They crossed to Italy on 4th January 1944 and initially relieved 5th British Survey Regiment. 1st (P) Battery came under command of 5th British Survey Regiment for three months, replacing one of the British batteries serving in the Anzio bridgehead. The Regiment returned to North West Europe with the other Canadian Forces in February 1945 under Operation Goldflake. They became operational in Holland towards the end of March 1945. The Regiment was authorized to disband with effect from 28th June 1945.
